Everyone Has a Story

It’s been awhile since I wrote something here on my blog.  Who has the time I wonder?   A lot has happened for me this year.  I love challenges and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.  Well, that’s not always true, but I do try.

This year, I decided to take up writing.  After all, doesn’t everyone want to write a book sometime in their life?   Although I may be 80 years old before I have my first novel published, at least I finally have a few stories written.  I even attended a writing workshop put on by a talented local author, Glenna Mageau.  I am so privileged to learn from this truly delightful human being, and to be able to draw from her expertise.  Her workshops are fun, informative, engaging and interactive.  I am pumped and ready to let the fountain of words spew forth.  I have been told by many a friend that I have a book in me waiting to come out.  So I have decided that it’s time to follow up on all those words of encouragement with action.  And before age 80, preferably.

Whether it’s a business letter or an excessively lengthy explanation on a questionnaire, a blog post or one of my many singing telegrams,  I often find myself pouring out words by the thousands.  Writing has never been much of a struggle for me.  Summarizing, on the other hand… well that’s another story.  I have never quite grasped the whole ‘less is more’ concept.

So I wonder, what is the project you have been putting off, my friend?  Maya Angelou once said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”  What do you think?  Do you have a story to share with the world?  Something to ponder.

One thing I love about my job as a singing telegrammer, is that I get to take people’s own, unique stories, write a poem about them and set them to music.  That, and embarrassing the heck out of people by singing to them in public… well… I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy that, too.   After all, a girl just wants to have fun.

Never Too Old
